Blood and gore: This game is full of it. Blood splatters like paint, and is very exaggerated; thick and goopy like jelly and is shed in more quantities than should be possible for a living being to lose. There is also a thing called gibbing, which means if you snipe an enemy's head or throw a grenade, all parts of that body will explode in a bloody and chunky mess. Because of the gibbing, limbs and severed torsos will stay on the battlefield, blood also lingers in puddles. Bodies also litter the game throughout, and are mostly human. These bodies are mangled, ripped apart, burnt and overall disfigured. Honestly though, because the game is so chaotic (despite a few specific areas of the game), you really have to be looking for them.

Your character is also equipped with a chainsaw, and if used it will tear the enemy apart, resulting in buckets of blood flying everywhere and splattering on the screen. Also, when your enemy is down but not dead, you can finish them by stomping on their head, resulting in a crushed bloody mess. But there is some good news for people who want blood effects off. If you go into the options menu, then go to game, and then turn off "Extreme content" the blood will be subsituted for sparks, and gibbing will be completely disabled. But only for gameplay. Blood remains in the cutscenes, but for some reason the effect is not as pronounced as in gameplay. You can skip the cutscenes entirely with the "B" button.

This game is packed with pronounced and intense R-rated violence. There are several scenes and situations that the main characters are put through that are disturbing and overall quite extreme. The violence is definitely akin to movies like "300" (especially with the extreme content on).

The main characters' sole enemy are the "Locusts," a race of huge mutated monsters, and seeing that they look and behave like Orcs from Lord of the Rings there is really not much sympathy to be had.

Specific scenes of intense violence:

Strong language: Though if you turn off the "Extreme content" in the options menu, it will remove all f-words. Also worth mentioning is, in gameplay when you fail to reload your weapon (which can happen often depending on your skill level), your character frequently says things like "D**n it!" and "S**t!".

Closing comment: Overall this a great game for adults, and is in no way appropriate for kids under 17. This game is not for the faint of heart, let alone children. Most of the intense scenes verge on horror, and even with the extreme content off, it's still a very violent and graphic game. I recommend this game for ages 17+.
