Violence: The game's story is about an FBI agent who goes undercover as a new member of a criminal gang that makes it their job to steal cars. He replaces the man who did the stealing part. Which means (of course) you'll be stealing cars for them the entirety of the game. The overall tone is dark, gritty and bit like film noire. But, it also tends to be melodramatic, contrived, and a bit cheesy.
Almost every mission goes something like this: You are given a destination to drive to where a targeted car is waiting to be stolen. You then get in your car, drive to the location, get out, shoot anyone guarding the car, get in the target car, escape from (angry) pursuing owners of said car, and drop it off at criminal headquarters. Rinse, repeat. Though there are a few missions that play a little differently; like sabotaging other rival gangs, saving your fellow gang members from tight situations, etc. But other than this, things don't change much for the overall mission stucture.
For people who have heard of this game, it has sometimes been compared to the Grand Theft Auto series. Well, I'll tell you what's the same: there is a somewhat large overworld; you can get out of your car and go on foot; you have a gun; you can kill pedestrians and cops with your gun; you can run over people with your car; you can be chased by police; and you can run into and wreck your car and other people's cars. Now for what's not the same: the game is very short; it's done in very linear, non-optional missions and levels; there is no blood or gore; there is no language to speak of; and cops will give chase when they just spot you (unlike GTA where you have to do something wrong).
Which brings me to police. They apparently don't know you're undercover, as they will chase you just because they see you. They will also interfere in almost every mission, most often forcing you to kill them. Which now brings me to the overall violence: it's not in the least bit realistic, that is, the animations are stiff and overall really unconvincing. Also, when you shoot someone there is absolutely no blood or gore, and to top it all off, the artificial intelligence is retarted. So, in other words, unlike the Grand Theft Auto series, there really is no human connection or reality to the game, which brings the offensive element down a few notches (though it's still a bit intense).
Specific scenes of violence:
Okay, I'm going to list the specific scenes now--but, before I do, I just want to remind you that there is no blood or gore in this game. So, any of the scenes that seem like they would have blood or gore don't in any way. Also, the story is downright confusing, so if you don't get some of these scenes, don't worry, I don't get them either.
The opening scene shows an unknown villain loading a shotgun. He shoots it offscreen, and as a result, fire fight breaks out with other criminals and police. The unknown villain shoots and kills a couple of cops, and as the main character appears, the villain shoots him. It then shows as the main character is being wheeled into a hospital room. Once they get him into the room and start to operate, he flatlines. You then find out that this is a glimpse of the very end of the game.
Later, as the main character is chasing the current wheelman for the gang he will soon infiltrate, he stops the villain in a alleyway and shoots him in the chest. The main character then interrogates him, as the villain then pulls something out of his vest. Thinking it's a gun, the main character shoots the villain, killing him. However, it wasn't a gun, it was car keys.
The next scene shows the main character walk in and meet the gang, after stealing his first car for them. The leader (female) has a man hanging upside down from the ceiling and his mouth gagged with duct tape. After the main character and the gang leader converse for a minute, she takes her gun to the hanging man's head, the camera cuts away, and you hear two shots that kill him. You then see a far away shot of the dead man still hanging there.
A later scene shows the main character drag a dead body (in a body bag) into a large crate, apparently for hiding. Again, I don't know for what reason, he just does.
In another scene, you hear as someone tells a story about a man who took a knife and cut off another man's finger. The man with the missing finger then takes the knife from the attacker and cuts off another one of his own fingers. I know...what?
