Strong lyrics: This rating ranges from silly to almost accurate, here are a few examples of "Strong lyrics" to give you an idea; one song states: "I need a lot of you, a lot, a lot, a lots of you, babe, he's a babe, he's a babe" (ok that sounds pretty silly right?) Next; "SHUT UP AND EAT, you know my love is sweet, very sweet." No this song isn't provocative (though it doesn't make very much sense), it's just extremely ANNOYING!! When you hear it you will want to throw your system out the window, or, just put the tv on mute (less expensive course of action).
Next: "like this, like that, like this, this, like that, it feels so gooood, it feels sooo good, good, just feels good."
Next: "Get down on the floor, I want to see something I have never seen before, I'm a sensuous woman, I want to be loved."
Ok, we are getting closer; this is the last and worst example of the songs, it's rap, so I couldn't make out all the lyrics, but it has one s**t, one bulls**t and it even has n***er, and the song is repeated 2 or 3 times. All the other songs in the list were techno/mix music. If you need to turn the music off for kids (or just hate it) you can go to the "garage" in the game (your headquarters) and talk to Roboy, he will show you the options menu, and then you can turn the music off. It's too bad the sound track is annoying, because this game is named "Jet Set Radio Future." Oh well.
Violence: To start, this game is about spraying graffiti. Sega has a large disclaimer before the title screen that states something like: "graffiti is art, but it's against the law so don't do it in real life." Just for the record there is no blood in this game. The story involves you fighting corrupt "policemen" whose boss is a crazy corrupt police captain (say that three times fast), and his boss (the main bad guy) is a crime lord. In specific areas of the game the "police" cage you in the street and chase you with "nothing," yes that's right they just chase you. The goal is to knock them down (your character is on skates) and then tag them with graffiti, until they stay down. If you do try to leave the area while fighting "police" and run into one of the electric fences, you guessed it, you get electrocuted. Throughout the game the "police" use spotlights (with guns at the end, duh), tanks, helicopters and more to do battle with your character.
Other than defacing public property with graffiti, you can also, in several levels, knock things down like bottles, chairs, trash cans, or break through glass, but the objects in question almost have no weight, so it's all so cartoony that it's hardly worth mentioning (but I did).
On a lighter note, the game's levels are full of "pedestrians"; if you run into them (and you will) they will scream things like "Don't do this!" or "Go away!" And some females say, "He touched my BUTT!" (this statement does not change if you play a female character; the pedestrian must only have the sense of touch--or maybe she's just accusitory?). All the "pedestrian stuff is over the top and completely meant to be that way. Not life-like at all.
Mild language: The ESRB didn't mention this in their rating, although, it is very mild. There are a couple d**ns and h**ls lightly spread through the game. I would list the specific number, but it's so thinly spread that it isn't worth listing.
Mild suggetive themes: The ESRB didn't mention this either. Several female characters wear revealing clothing; one female gang wears fishnet stocking, bikini bottoms, and...perfectly modest shirts? Yep I know, weird. Female characters also do somewhat provocative dances (if your'e into low-res cartoon characters).
Closing Comment: This game is very unique, and one of my favorites. It has a great graphics style and some of the most unique gameplay you'll find anywhere. The only downside is that many of the songs in this are extremely annoying. Content-wise there are a few somewhat suggestive songs, with mild lyrics, but you can turn the music off in the options menu. Also, the suggestive themes are very tame and the violence is goofy, cartoony and over-the-top. So, I recommend this game for ages 13+.
